“…Naver [16] have reported six fold reduction in exposure when using double gloves. Majority of the perforations occurred in Index finger and thumb followed by in other parts of hand. This observation is consistent with most of the other studies (6,11,14) . Non dominant left hand was found to have more perforations as compared to dominant right hand.…”

“…In Gynaecology and obstetrics procedures it varies from 24.4% to 20.8% [13], general surgery 45 %, plastic surgery 21.4% and thoracic surgery 26% (14,15) . In orthopaedic surgery with use of metallic instruments, oscillating saw, sharp implants and wires may be responsible for higher risk of glove perforation [6] .…”

“…40 Evaluating the incidents of glove needlestick injury in theaters showed that the risk of perforation to the surgeon's glove was more during major than minor operations, and risk of perforation of an assistant's gloves was similar in minor and major plastic surgery procedures. 41 In 2003, it was noted in French Web site experiences that those for cosmetic surgery, for example, were poor, then the question of a need for a chart of quality for Web sites related to cosmetic surgery was raised. With the growing numbers of Web site surfers, the specialty should evolve that way, too, however; it is recommended to be under a chart of quality with recommendations rather than constraints.…”

“…8 Among the other surgical specialities, orthopaedics has the highest rate of glove perforation ranging from 14% in paediatric orthopaedics to 57 % during hip fractures operations 9-15 when compared to 10.1% to 43% in OBG, 35% to 54% in general surgery, 21.4% in plastic surgery and 26% in thoracic surgery. [16][17][18][19][20] This could be because of highest shear stress on gloves during orthopaedic procedure then in any other procedures. 21 Hence this study was conducted to study the incidence of glove perforation, their pattern in our institute.…”
