The prevalence of T. gondii in Brazil is quite variable, with reported prevalence rates of 14.4% in São Paulo (Mainardi et al, 2003), 17.1% in Rio Grande do Norte (Lima et al, 2008), 49.4% in Piauí (Rêgo et al, 2016), and 39.4% in Paraná (Garcia et al, 2012).
