Background: Central obesity is strongly associated with obesity-related and metabolic diseases, which is a common health problem in sedentary adults, particularly in women, but the mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with central obesity in white-collar workers Chinese population, and explore potential sex differences. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between 2017 and 2019 at two large general hospitals in northern and southern China. Totally 6,081 white-collar workers underwent a physical examination and completed an online health self-report questionnaire, which included demographic variables, lifestyle factors and blood lipid test. Multilevel logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the prevalence and factors of central obesity. Results: A total of 4,973 male and 1,108 female white-collar workers were included in this study, and the incidence of central obesity was 67.5% and 30.1%, respectively. In male white-collar workers, increasing age, chronic disease, higher levels of total cholesterol, salt intake and BEE, social engagement, eating spicy food and animal offal were risk factors for central obesity, while a higher HDL-C level, eating fish, and high vegetable intake were protective factors. In female white-collar workers, increasing age, higher total cholesterol level, higher BEE, and overeating were risk factors for central obesity, while a higher HDL-C level, and drinking milk were protective factors. Conclusions: Central obesity was a significant public health concern and the prevalence was high in Chinese adults. Healthy lifestyles and dietary measures to control the rates of central obesity should be undertaken to circumvent the growing disease burden in Chinese people..

Background China has the highest liver cancer burden in the world. Prediction and comparison of the future trends of liver cancer in China and some representative areas may guide further control action. Methods Using data from the Global Burden of Disease Study, we assessed incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years of liver cancer in Mainland China, with reference to representative East Asia areas (Taiwan China, Japan, and Korea) and Western areas (the United Kingdom and the United States). The burden of liver cancer was evaluated and predicted using NOREPRED model from 1990 to 2044. Results Overall, the liver cancer incidence (28.1 to 10.6 per 100,000) and mortality (27.5 to 9.7 per 100,000) decreased from 1990 to 2015 in Mainland China, which were consistent with the trends of Eastern Asia areas. However, the disease burden in Mainland China were then plateaued and started to increase during 2015–2044 (10.6 to 14.8 per 100,000 for incidence; 9.7 to 14.02 per 100,000 for mortality), including the hepatitis-related liver cancer incidence (increase from 8.6 to 11.7 per 100,000). While the changing patterns of alcohol- and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)-related liver cancer incidence were found similar among Mainland China (0.93 to 1.51 per 100,000 for alcohol; 0.5 to 0.73 per 100,000 for NASH) and Western countries in our projection. Conclusion The liver cancer burden in Mainland China is unexpectedly predicted to increase again after decades of decline. Future efforts must be made to resolve both the remaining hepatitis-related cancer burden and the changing etiologies.

BackgroundThe disease burden caused by obesity has increased significantly in China. Less than 30% of those who are obese meet the weekly physical activity standards recommended by the WHO. Risk factors that influence exercise behavior in people with obesity remain unclear.MethodsBased on the survey from the Chinese General Social Survey program (CGSS) in 2017, 3,331 subjects were identified and enrolled in the univariate and multiple probit regression models. We aimed to identify the association between SRH and the exercise behavior of obese people and further explore the influencing factors of active physical activity in this group of people.ResultsThe proportion of active physical activity in obese people was 25%. Groups with better SRH, higher education and income were more likely to participate in sports. Obese people who lived in rural areas, were unmarried or divorced, or fell within the age range of 35–40 had a significantly lower percentage of engagement in active physical activity.ConclusionsThe proportion of people with obesity who meet the WHO recommendation for physical activity in China is not ideal. Health promotion programs for those who are obese need to be further strengthened and targeted, especially for rural areas, low-income families, and middle-aged obese people.
