Risk factors for morbidity and death in non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis: a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of CT diagnosed bronchiectatic patients

Abstract: IntroductionThere is a relative lack of information about the death rate and morbidity of non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis and most studies are limited due to referral bias. These may include time since diagnosis of bronchiectasis or the presence of pulmonary hypertension, neither of which was recorded routinely in this study (20). In addition, our study was primarily of patients with idiopathic and postinfective bronchiectasis and would not be powered to detect anything other than very large effects on survival in bronchiectasis due to less common etiologies, such as allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis or rheumatological diseases.…”
