Risk Factors for Ischemic Heart Disease

Abstract: Background: Several risk factors have been empirically linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Some of them are therapeutically amenable to modification; while others are not. Modifiable risk factors include physical inactivity, tobacco use, diet, “bad fats” in the blood, hypertension, and being overweight; while non-modifiable risk factors include the patient’s family history, the presence versus absence of diabetes mellitus, and demographic characteristics like age, gender, ethnicity, and soci… Show more

“…In addition, hypertension can cause CVDs other than stroke, such as ischemic heart disease. Epidemiological evidence showed that there is a close and consistent link between hypertension and ischemic heart disease [22,23]. In our study, 53.91% (95% UI 45.59-61.67) of deaths and 56.52% (49.02-63.24) of DALYs from stroke were due to Fig.…”

In our study, 53.91% (95% UI 45.59–61.67) of deaths and 56.52% (49.02–63.24) of DALYs from stroke were due to high systolic blood pressure in both sexes combined globally in 2017, whereas there were 54.72% (44.87–64.56) of deaths and 55.65% (48.05–63.10) of DALYs due to it for ischemic heart disease.…”

“…Myocardial infarction is among the complications of obstructive coronary artery disease. Besides, this condition is caused by a complete blockage of the coronary artery by atherosclerotic plaque [11]. Given the significant increase in myocardial infarction among the male and female populations, it is essential to identify modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors in reducing the incidence of heart attack and its subsequent complications.…”

“…Some racial-ethnic groups experience a greater disease burden. In the United States, various studies have identi-fied racial differences in the treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease; such data could be attributed to financial barriers, clinical differences, and patient preferences, as well as the extent of patient contact with the healthcare system [11].…”

“…Acute Myocardial ischemia is diagnosed by using investigation parameters as per WHO criteria of Increase or decrease in Cardiac Biochemical markers with at least one of the following: signs of myocardial ischemia clinically and ECG changes like pathologic Q wave rise or elevation or fall of ST segment. Hypercholesterolemia and High BMI is considered as important modifiable risk factors of myocardial ischemia 1,2,3,4 .…”
