“…This study's findings are consistent with those of Fairbrother et al, 23 who reported workload, staffing, workplace culture, effect on productivity, and reduced time as perceived barriers to student clinical placement for CE experiences. Similar to other studies, our results indicated that both clinical administrators and SCCEs acknowledged clinician burnout, 34,35 managing challenging students, 36 and maintaining productivity standards 26-29,37,38 as factors affecting clinicians volunteering to be a CI. It is important to note that these data were collected before the pandemic, and burnout may be an even greater factor at this current time.…”

“…Organizations need to have strong qualities, such as community, values, fairness, and rewards, to reduce the prevalence of burnout (Leiter, 2011). A poor sense of community has been shown to be a significant emotional risk factor for burnout (Burri et al., 2022). Job satisfaction among physical therapists is strongly correlated with their sense of community (Arkwright et al., 2018).…”

“…The moderate to high levels of emotional exhaustion found in this study were significantly higher than those reported by physical therapists in sparsely populated counties and orthopaedic settings (Berry & Hosford, 2015; Wandling & Smith, 1997). The higher levels of emotional exhaustion in participants may be an example of an increasing trend in conversation and awareness of burnout seen within the healthcare profession, as it is becoming more known that practicing physical therapy can be emotionally and physically draining (Burri et al., 2022). The increased workload on physical therapists per our participants' responses seems to be increasing, while support both in the clinic and from an administrative level is declining.…”

“…More specifically, higher FAB from patients indicates that their estimation of threat will cause avoidance behaviors; while patients are aware of upcoming pain simulation, they tend to bear increasing and exaggerated PC [4,5]. Additionally, with high association between burnout and physical therapy, various manifestations, including both mentally fatigue, physically tiredness and impatience when facing patients, would lead to negative consequences to patients' rehabilitation and culminate into more medical errors [6]. To prevent subjective factors influencing rehabilitation performance, implementing adaptive scoring metrics with machine learning algorithms can be considered as an effective alternative in this case.…”
