Abstract: Anatomic features affect mortality and initial left ventricular outflow tract procedures, whereas characteristics of the arch repair affect arch reintervention.

“…They reported operative mortality for simple APW as 0% (0 of 11 patients) and for complex APW, 12.5% (3 of 24 patients) [5]. Similarly, Tkebuchava and associates [8] described their experience with repair of APW in 11 patients between 1971 and 1993, with operative mortality for simple APW of 0% (0 of 5 patients) and 16.7% (1 of 6 patients). The single death in this study was of a patient with concomitant IAA [8].…”

“…The first was for an aortic arch stenosis in a patient with APW and type B IAA at 13 years after initial surgery. Type B IAA is a known risk factor for reintervention [16]. The second was for a pulmonary valve stenosis at 9 years after repair in a patient with APW and TOF.…”

“…IAA is defined as either a complete discontinuity or a nonpatent fibrous strand in the transverse arch or aortic isthmus [12,13]. The types of IAA were described by Celoria and Patten [12,14].…”

“…Most patients have only an isolated VSD [13] but IAA can be associated with a variety of complex cardiovascular anomalies [1,7]. A spectrum of left ventricular outflow tract obstructive (LVOTO) lesions, particularly subaortic stenosis (SAS), is also common [1,4,5,7,15].…”

“…D irect anastomosis with or without a patch, and interposition of a vascular prosthesis are the most commonly used techniques to repair an interrupted aortic arch (IAA) [1,2]. The use of a subclavian artery is known for aortic coarctation repair [3,4].…”
