Risk factors associated with acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease at shrimp farm level in Bac Lieu Province, Vietnam

Abstract: Background and Aim: Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) is a severe disease in shrimp farms and adversely affected the shrimp industry of Vietnam. So far, the study on risk factors associated with AHPND outbreaks is limited. The objective of this study was to determine the potential risk factors of AHPND at the shrimp farm level in Bac Lieu Province, Vietnam. Materials and Methods: Real-time-Polymerase chain reaction was used to analyze data collected from an active surveillance program of shrimp … Show more

“…According to an increasing number of studies, V. alginolyticus is not only limited to infecting marine species such as oysters (1), groupers (2), and shrimps (3), but also gradually become an opportunistic pathogen of human infection (4)(5)(6). Over the last decade, aquatic animal diseases caused by V. alginolyticus occur frequently with the expansion of aquaculture scale and the deterioration of water environment, leading to enormous economic losses to the aquaculture industry (7)(8)(9)(10). In recent years, research on the pathogenic mechanisms of V. alginolyticus has gained momentum.…”

“…and from 80% to 100%, respectively (according to Desrina et al (2022) and OIE ( 2021)), while for AHPND these range from 52% to 87% (Nguyen et al, 2021) and from 40% to100%, respectively (according to Boonyawiwat et al (2018) and OIE ( 2021)). Next, we used individual Google forms to elicit experts' individual assessments of the prevalence and mortality rates for each disease in each cooperation scenario.…”
