“…By contrast, Matsuda et al (33) conjectured that tumor multiplicity was not associated with 1-year HCC recurrence status. It has also been reported that the risk factors for early HCC recurrence subsequent to achieving CR by TACE included large tumor size, non-compact lipiodol uptake and an AFP concentration >20 ng/ml, but not tumor number (34). This discrepancy may be explained in part by the different treatment modalities and the baseline characteristics of the patients with HCC between studies.…”

“…Microscopic remnant tumors may not be detectable by imaging studies such as CT during the early phase after TACE 4. Lesions that were not detected by CT, but were detected using TACE were reported in 45% of cases 24. Thus, closer surveillance should be considered in patients with multinodular HCC even if they are in remission radiologically after TACE.…”

“…Standard treatments for localized HCC include surgical resection, liver transplantation,1, 2 radiofrequency ablation (RFA),3, 4 and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) 5, 6, 7. Treatment eligibility is dependent on patient and tumor conditions.…”
