Porpuse: Rubus are economically important fruits, being highly valued for their taste and medicinal properties, for which it is estimated that there are between 400 to 700 species but many of them are still unknown by the population. Methods: The literature does not present much information regarding the physicochemical, bioactive composition and antioxidant activity of Rosaceae Rubus rosifolius Smith and for this reason this research was carried out. Results: The fruits presented low content of lipids (7.42%) and ash (0.27%), intermediate values of protein (11.54%), and with considerable content fiber (23.72%) and carbohydrates (59.18%), low acidity, and interesting values of soluble solids. Regarding bioactive compounds, good concentrations of phenolic compounds (289.4 (mg. g− 1 EAG), flavonoids (155 mg100g− 1), anthocyanins (120.11 mg cyanidin-3-glucoside 100g− 1) and phytoene (517.3 mg100g− 1). Conclusion: The wild strawberry showed good antioxidant capacity verified by different methods of analysis. Given the findings of this research, it is observed that this fruit has nutritional and phytochemical potential to be inserted in the human diet and therefore its consumption should be encouraged.

Rubus rosifolius belongs to the genus Rubus in the family Rosaceae and is widely distributed globally. It has white flowers and red fruits. Moreover, it has medicinal value for diseases of the stomach and other areas. However, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of R. rosifolius remains unclear. In the present study, we sequenced the complete cp genome of R. rosifolius (GenBank accession no. OL435124), which had a typical quadripartite structure and a size of 155,650 bp. Fifteen genes ( trn K-UUU, rps 16, trn G-UCC, atp F, rpo C1, trn L-UAA, trn V-UAC, pet B, pet D, rpl 16, rpl 2, ndh B, trn I-GAU, trn A-UGC, and ndh A) contained an intron, and two genes ( clp P and ycf 3) contained two introns. The gene rps 12 showed trans-splicing. Phylogenetic analysis showed that R. rosifolius was closely related to Rubus taiwanicola, Rubus rubroangustifolius , and Rubus glandulosopunctatus.

Cytogenotoxic screening of the natural compound niga‐ichigoside F1 from Rubus imperialis (Rosaceae)

Rubus imperialis Chum. Schl. (Rosaceae) have demonstrated some pharmacological activities, including gastroprotective action. However, genotoxic effects of R. imperialis extract was also reported. Since niga‐ichigoside F1 (NIF1) is a major compound of this plant species, and which has proven pharmacological properties, it is essential to investigate whether this compound is responsible for the observed toxicity. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the effects of NIF1 on HepG2/C3A cells for possible cytogenotoxicity, cell cycle and apoptosis influence, and expression of genes linked to the DNA damage, cell cycle, cell death, and xenobiotic metabolism. The results showed no cytogenotoxic effects of NIF1 at concentrations between 0.1 and 20 μg/ml. Flow cytometry also showed no cell cycle or apoptosis disturbance. In the gene expression analysis, none of the seven genes investigated showed altered expression. The data indicate that NIF1 has no cytogenotoxic effects, and no interruption of the cell cycle, or induction of apoptosis, apparently not being responsible for the cytotoxic effects observed in the crude extract of R. imperialis.
