“…Another study from Bhatinda, Punjab, which has high pesticide consumption rates, has reported that children exposed to pesticides displayed lower abilities in cognition, memory, stamina, motor skills and concentration than their unexposed counterparts selected from a non-target area 39. Recent studies conducted in Punjab reveal widespread contamination of dairy milk and its products with high residues of persistent organochlorine insecticides such as DDT and HCH in bovine and human milk 40 41. Similar results on pesticide residue concentrations were observed in water and food in a previous study42 and milk (bovine and human), food and fodder in the present study.…”

“…Aguilera-del Real et al (1997) reported levels of endosulfan residues in peppers, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes as 0.16, 0.12, and 0.30 mg/kg, respectively. Monitoring studies conducted in India (Battu et al, 2005) revealed widespread contamination of vegetables, fruits, and cereals with insecticide residues. In vegetables from Eastern Romania (Hura et al, 1999), the mean levels of HCHs and DDTs varied between 0.24 and 1.19 µg/kg in carrots and lettuce for HCHs, and 0.89 and 9.8 µg/kg in carrots, lettuce and cabbage for DDTs.…”
