Risk analysis of gas leakage in gas pressure reduction station and its consequences: A case study for Zahedan

Abstract: Industrial accidents have increased the importance of dealing with the risks of toxic exposure, fire and explosion. Despite the measures taken in the chemical industry to prevent accidents, the accidents occur often due to human error or process faults during repairs. Although several studies have been conducted on the accidents in the process industry, no research has modeled the risks caused by the leakage of toxic substances in the gas pressure reduction station. The consequences of gas leak and fire in Zah… Show more

“…The mean 'm' was determined to be 157.93 based on the study area, the Fire Insurer Laboratories of Korea (FILK), and the standard deviation was calculated to be 124.92, both of which were then input into the Monte Carlo model. Equation (5) relates to the SD1 estimates for gas-leak detectors and represents the percentage ratio of detected occurrences at the final time of 720 h. 'W t ' refers to the wind direction over time, 'Min' is the minimum detection standard, and 'Max' is the maximum detection standard. 'Min' and 'Max' are depicted as values of plus or minus 5-10, based on the wind angles shown in Figure 13a,b.…”

“…Oil refining and petrochemical industries are national-based industries [3], so in the event of an accident due to a gas leak, subsequent effects arise owing to production interruption. Large-scale casualties have occurred as a result of various chemical-leak accidents, such as fires and explosions caused by hazardous chemical leaks [4][5][6]. Owing to the toxicity of these chemicals, spills can quickly escalate into major accidents, leading to the release of hazardous contaminants [7,8].…”

“…The oil industry is one of the most important industries in the world and in Iran, which plays an important role in determining the level of national power and international prestige. 13 The market of the offshore drilling industry can be divided into five separate sections, which are in order of market value: owning rigs and performing drilling operations, building new rigs, buying, and selling second-hand rigs, repairing and upgrading new drilling rigs, and scrapping outdated rigs. It is notable that the volume of financial flows in the upgrade and repair of existing rigs was equal to one to five billion dollars between 2005 and 2012.…”

“…It can be due to inadequate risk management at the planning stage (Rui et al , 2017). Oil and gas projects are exposed to numerous internal and external risks (Dadkani et al , 2021). This is due to many stakeholders involved in the relevant contracts and high technical complexity.…”
