“…Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory, demyelinating and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that usually starts in the third or fourth decades of life [ 1 3 ]. MS has a complex etiology and its causes are currently not fully understood, but it is known that it is one of the leading reasons of non-traumatic neurological disability in young adults, leading to remarkable socioeconomic impacts and the need for lifetime support and management [ 4 6 ].…”

“…Relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) commonly arises before middle age, at a time when families are likely to be planning to have children [ 1 ]. Moreover, two-thirds of Saudi MS patients in this study were females, suggesting that about half of patients with MS in KSA are women of childbearing potential [ 2 ].…”

“…MS in the Middle East North Africa region has increased consistently with the growing global prevalence of the disease [5]. In a recent Saudi study, the prevalence of MS was 40.4/100,000 population, with threefourths of pwMS younger than 40 years of age and a female to male ratio of 2:1 [6]. A local Saudi study from 1998 suggested that the onset was mostly in the third decade, with the majority of pwMS having RRMS [7].…”
