To cite this article: Keita Takayama (2009) Globalizing critical studies of 'official' knowledge: lessons from the Japanese history textbook controversy over 'comfort women'This paper discusses the Japanese history textbook controversy over 'comfort women' to tease out insights that help globalize the existing theoretical discussion of politics of school knowledge. I begin by documenting how the domestic struggles over Japanese history textbooks are empowered and disempowered by the regional and international power relations. Using the Japanese case, I first problematize the use of hegemony in critical scholarship wherein struggles over school knowledge have been defined within the framework of a nation-state. Second, I call for situating the discussion of counter-hegemonic strategies in the increasingly internationalized politics of education witnessed around the world. In sum, this study calls for broadening the application of the notions of hegemony and counter-hegemony in critical education scholarship to take full account of the complex political dynamics of globalizations.

We probe the high scale SUSY at 10-50 TeV in the CP violations of K , B 0 and B s mesons. In order to estimate the contribution of the squark flavor mixing to these CP violations, we discuss the squark mass spectrum, which is consistent with the recent Higgs discovery. Taking the universal soft parameters at the SUSY breaking scale, we obtain the squark mass spectrum at 10 TeV and 50 TeV, where the SM emerges.Then, the 6 × 6 mixing matrix between down-squarks and down-quarks is discussed by input of the experimental data of K , B 0 and B s mesons. It is found that K is most sensitive to the high scale SUSY. The SUSY contributions for the time-dependent CP asymmetries S J /ψ K S and S J /ψφ are 6-8% at the SUSY scale of 10 TeV. We also discuss the SUSY contribution to the chromo-EDM of the strange quark.

Waiting for Clear Signals of New Physics in B and K Decays

We classify the extensions of the Standard Model (SM) according to the structure of local operators in the weak effective Hamiltonian and the presence or absence of new flavour and CP-violating interactions beyond those represented by the CKM matrix. In particular we review characteristic properties of models with minimal flavour violation (MFV), models with significant contributions from Higgs penguins and models with enhanced Z^0 penguins carrying a large new CP-violating phase. Within the latter models, the anomalous behaviour of certain B\to\pi K observables implies large departures from the SM predictions for rare and CP-violating K and B decays. Most spectacular is the enhancement of Br(K_L->pi^0 nu nubar) by one order of magnitude and a strong violation of the MFV relation (\sin2\beta)_{\pi\nu\bar\nu}=(\sin2\beta)_{\psi K_S}. On the other hand our prediction for (\sin2\beta)_{\phi K_S}\approx 0.9 differs from the Belle result by the sign but is consistent with the BaBar value.
