Right-handed neutrinos and R(D(∗))

Abstract: We explore scenarios where the R(D ( * ) ) anomalies arise from semitauonic decays to a right-handed sterile neutrino. We perform an EFT study of all five simplified models capable of generating at tree-level the lowest dimension electroweak operators that give rise to this decay. We analyze their compatibility with current R(D ( * ) ) data and other relevant hadronic branching ratios, and show that one simplified model is excluded by this analysis. The remainder are compatible with collider constraints on the… Show more

“…In this scenario the W is the gauge boson associated with the interaction between the RH quark and RH lepton currents involving a RH sterile neutrino. This RH current interpretation to the R(D ( * ) ) anomalies have been discussed recently in the literature within different NP realizations [62,[106][107][108][109][110][111][112][113]. We plot in Figs.…”

“…We have also checked that for W masses higher than 1.2 TeV this is still disfavored. However, as discussed in [110], there is a freedom in the flavor structure of the c 23 q , c 3 N couplings and it is possible to get, in general, different values c 23 q = c 3 N that the ones assumed in [109].…”

“…TheR 2 leptoquark has also been proposed as a possible explanation of the R D ( * ) anomalies if one introduces a light ν R that fakes the SM ones, as e.g. in [56,106]. We will not consider this possibility here.…”
