Background To detect the right atrial (RA) functions in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients by using volume-derived values and two-dimensional strain. Methods Thirty-two HCM patients and 34 age and gender matched normal controls were enrolled for this study. RA volume-derived values were measured by using 2D ultrasonic images. RA strain (S-reservoir, S-conduit, S-booster pump) and strain rate (SR-reservoir, SR-conduit, SR-booster pump), representing the reservoir, conduit and booster pump functions, respectively, were measured by EchoPAC. Results Total RA emptying fraction (RAEF) and RA expansion index in HCM patients were significantly lower than normal controls ( p < 0.05). The values of S-reservoir, S-conduit, Sr-reservoir and Sr-conduit in HCM patients were significantly lower than normal controls ( p < 0.001). Although there were no significant differences in S-booster pump and Sr-booster pump between HCM patients and normal controls, the absolute values in HCM patients were lower than normal controls. Conclusions In this study, we concluded that RA dysfunctions, including the reservoir and conduit functions were impaired in HCM patients.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive pulmonary vasculopathy that causes chronic right ventricular pressure overload and often leads to right ventricular failure. Various kinase inhibitors have been studied in the setting of PH and either improved or worsened the disease, highlighting the importance of understanding the specific role of the respective kinases in a spatiotemporal cellular context. In this review, we will summarize the knowledge on the role of kinases in PH and focus on druggable targets for which certain criteria are met: (a) deregulation of the kinase in PH; (b) smallmolecule inhibitors are available (e.g. from the oncology field); (c) preclinical studies have shown their efficacy in PH models; and (d) when available, therapeutic exploitation in human PH has been initiated. Along this line, clinical considerations such as personalized medicine approaches to predict therapy response and adverse side events such as cardiotoxicity together with their clinical management are discussed.

A szív képalkotó vizsgálatai hagyományosan a bal kamrára összpontosítottak, majd az utóbbi évtizedekben a bal pit-gálható a szívüregek közül utolsóként a jobb pitvar is. A pitvarméretek egy-majd kétdimenziós vizsgálata után ma már tak. A jobb pitvari morfológia és funkció részleteinek megismerése új adatokkal gazdagíthatja a diagnosztikát, valamint a rizikó és a prognózis becslését.The traditional target of the cardiovascular imaging was the left ventricle. In the last decades the left atrium and the right heart also gained importance. The development of new imaging modalities such as modern echocardiographic techniques, cardiac CT and MRI made it possible to acquire more exact and detailed knowledge of the right atrium, as the last cardiac chamber to be investigated. After the one-and two-dimensional evaluation of the right atrial size, assessment of the phases of right atrial function, providing more information on early functional impairment and compensatory mechanisms. The detailed knowledge of right atrial morphology and function allows for more exact diagnosis, risk assessment and prognostic evaluation.
