Rietveld Refinement of the Crystal Structure of Hydroxyapatite Using X-ray Powder Diffraction

Abstract: The stoichiometric hydroxyapatite, Ca 10 (PO 4 ) 6 (OH) 2 is prepared by an aqueous precipitation method at room temperature, the main reactants were Ca(OH) 2 and H 3 PO 4 without addition of ammonia solution. The sample was analyzed by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) which reveals the presence of a small amount of carbonate due to absorbance of carbon dioxide from the air during synthesis process. The crystal structure was carried out by X-ray powder diffraction data and the Rietveld method u… Show more

“…However, no calcium oxide (CaO) was usually present in other coatings of HA with thermal spraying [3,14,23]. This confirms good phase transplantation during the formation of the HA coating by the GDS method [52][53][54]. Based on the results obtained, the most homogeneous structure with lower poros and a large number of crystalline phases was obtained in the coating prepared in the el trolyte based on silicate (S).…”

“…Powder X-ray diffraction patterns were collected on a PANalytical Aeris Research Diffractometer in θ-θ geometry (Malvern PANalytical, Malvern, UK), using CuKα radiation (40 kV, 15 mA) at 298 K. The range of 2θ was from 20°-100°, with a step size of 0.02. Rietveld refinement was provided by the computer program FULLPROF [51]. The crystal structures of the synthesized compounds were visualized using the VESTA software [52].…”
