Richness and abundance of stream fish communities in a fragmented neotropical landscape

Abstract: Environmental conditions influence ecological processes that shape stream community diversity and abundance. Deforestation has the potential to limit available particulate organic matter and raise stream temperatures. The degree to which tropical stream communities are impacted by these changes is likely to differ between systems, but empirical data from tropical regions are lacking. This lack of baseline data hinders conservation policy as well as efforts to better understand biogeographic and anthropogenic i… Show more

“…At the Cube basin, 21 species of freshwater fish have been reported to occur, of which 43% are endemic. Recent investigations have shed light on the impact of a fragmented landscape on both, species richness and abundance, as well as the seasonal dynamics shaping communities in Laguna del Cube-a RAMSAR lake from the region [16,31].…”

“…Based on the tree from the Cube River fish species (Fig 3 ), our results suggest no taxonomic deviation was detected at the species level, indicating that all examined species could be authenticated by the barcode approach within the species assemblage of the study area. For [16,31]. ‡ Based on the fish species distribution of the Western Fish from Ecuador [13,17].…”
