Rice Hull Micro and Nanosilica: Synthesis and Characterization

Abstract: Rice hull is a by-product natural material composing of high amount of silica. In this work, silica microparticles were synthesized from rice hull using 3 temperature levels of calcination at 500, 600, and 850 ºC. Then, they were transformed to silica nanoparticles by precipitation method using sodium silicate as an initial substance synthesized from rice hull. Finally, the properties of silica particle were studied such as characteristics, morphology of particle, component, and size of silica. The result show… Show more

“…Taking into consideration the vast significance of SiNPs in cultivation, it is necessary to develop and implement biogenic SiNPs in the agriculture field. Generally, the regular crystalline SiNPs are synthesised in the nano-meter range through green routes utilizing agricultural waste (Jansomboon et al, 2017). Agricultural and plants wastes are utilized as precursors for the preparation of SiNPs (Figure 2).…”

“…The major benefit of utilizing the waste is its accessibility, which is cost-effective, biodegradable, and less toxic as compared to other reported chemically synthesized NPs. Several reports were obtained for SiNPs production through rice husk (Jansomboon et al, 2017). Besides this, sugarcane bagasse is considered a common waste material obtained through the sugar manufacturing industry (Lu and Hsieh, 2012;Mohd et al, 2017).…”

“…For instance, Jansomboon et al created silica micro- and nanoparticles by using rice shell for first time. 41 In order to synthesize highly pure amorphous silica nano-discs, Lu et al employed rice straw as a source of silica. 42 Sankar et al produced bio-generated SiNPs using sticky, red, and brown rice husk ash.…”

“…There are several publications in the scientific literature on the use of this material to create high-quality SiO 2 NPs. Using rice husk for the first time, Jansomboon et al produced silica micro- and NPs . Sachan et al worked on a comparative investigation of the green synthesis of SiO 2 NPs from leaf biomass and their application to the removal of heavy metals from synthetic wastewater .…”
