Rhizosphere Signaling: Insights into Plant–Rhizomicrobiome Interactions for Sustainable Agronomy

Abstract: Rhizospheric plant–microbe interactions have dynamic importance in sustainable agriculture systems that have a reduced reliance on agrochemicals. Rhizosphere signaling focuses on the interactions between plants and the surrounding symbiotic microorganisms that facilitate the development of rhizobiome diversity, which is beneficial for plant productivity. Plant–microbe communication comprises intricate systems that modulate local and systemic defense mechanisms to mitigate environmental stresses. This review de… Show more

“…However, the intense competition between Cistus and Gorse suggests that Gorse may act through the regulation of oak stomatal opening due either to volatile signal transducers or by the rhizosphere’s chemical components. For instance, plants or rhizospheric microorganisms’ exudation of abscisic acid is known to regulate stomatal conductance [ 38 , 39 ]. Considering all the tretraspecific assemblages, a decrease in the ratio of R975/R900 was noticed, confirming the same pattern as that obtained from the trispecific plant associations [ 17 ].…”

“…and Pseudomonas sp. has been shown to significantly increase the phosphate solubilization efficiency of wheat cultivars that were growing in phosphate-deficient soil [ 68 ]. In addition, the tolerance of some plant species to drought was positively correlated with the increase in the relative abundance of the genus Streptomyces [ 69 ].…”

“…Plant-fungal associations can range from mutualistic symbiosis and commensalism to parasitic, but are dependent on the host (including its rhizosphere, the research topic here) and the surroundings [ 67 ]. Such relationships can result in the plants’ improved capability to survive in stressful environments (physical and biological) [ 68 ].…”
