SummaryRhinoliths consist of a central nidus with calcification resulting in calcareous concretions within the nasal cavity. They are uncommon in the literature despite a propensity particularly in children to insert foreign bodies into their nose and ears. We present the case of a 62-year-old woman with a longstanding undetected rhinolith with mild uncharacteristic symptoms. Radiographic examination revealed anatomical alteration of the inferior turbinate that was attributed to the long presence of the rhinolith in the nasal cavity. The management of the rhinolith and a review of the literature are presented. BACKGROUND

Improvement in Admicellar Polymerization of Polypyrrole on Cotton Fabric Using Precationization to Achieve High Electrical Conductivity

This study aims to modify admicellar polymerization (AP) of polypyrrole (PPy) by increasing the adsorption of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on cotton fabric. The PPy films were formed on the pristine and precationized cotton samples using the AP method. The samples were characterized by UV-Vis and attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic techniques, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the standard two-probe method. The adsorbed amounts of SDS showed an increase up to 37% in the cationized samples. Both infrared spectroscopy and SEM images confirmed the formation of PPy layers on uncationized and cationized cotton samples. The agglomeration of PPy particles was also appeared on the uncationized fibers. However, a uniform distribution of PPy films was observed for the cationized cotton fabrics. Furthermore, the conductivity of these samples enhanced up to 49% (with a 0.0212 S/cm electrical conductivity). It was concluded that cotton precationization could result in a fabric with a very low resistance or improved conductivity. C 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. SummaryThis is a case report of an 80-year-old woman who presented to the ENT services with multiple non-specific upper aerodigestive tract symptoms. Despite extensive investigation and treatment, her symptoms remained unalleviated with significant impact on the psychological morbidity. During a routine flexible nasoendoscopy for worsening globus pharnygis, a mass was noted in the right Rosenmþller's fossa, where the Eustachian tube leaves the lateral wall of the nasopharynx. A CT scan showed this to be a 10 mm calcified entity within the right Eustachian tube. It was subsequently removed under local anaesthesia providing much relief to the patient. Histology showed this mass to be a rhinolith. BACKGROUND
