“…In summary, the development of the v P in time shows that the incorporation of the SP admixtures inevitably retard formation of structure and setting phenomena of cement pastes. This further substantiates the results reported by other authors, when some other advanced techniques have been used [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. PCE admixtures used in the study retard the solid network frame development more intensively especially during the setting period of the hydration process, resulting in the clearly evident plateau on the v P -t curves at this hydration period.…”

“…Advances in measurement and computer technologies in recent years have allowed the development of various advanced methods to study the influence of different SPs on the hydration process and formation of structure of cementitious materials. Most of these studies have shown that in conjunction with their well known cement dispersing function, the incorporation of SPs leads to a retardation of the hydration process [5][6][7][8][9][10] which is attributed to the dispersing action of these admixtures in the fresh state [8]. A delay in the setting process of superplasticized cement pastes has been also observed by many different techniques, such as impedance spectroscopy [8], electrical conductivity [11], electrical resistivity [4], and isothermal calorimetry [12,13].…”

“…PA-pastes show a local minimum of viscosity after 17 or 33 minutes when 0.15 or 0.30 wt% of PA, respectively, were added. That local minimum may represent a stable zone where the structure of aggregates is being destroyed by shear stress, and viscosity rises again when hydration progresses and the bonding strength between particles increases [43].…”

“…The high degree and duration of the fluidity that this admixture affords concrete are related to structural factors. The long lasting fluidity is induced when the main chain is shorter with longer and numerous lateral chains [28]. The use of PC admixtures makes it possible to reduce the water content by up to 40% producing workable high performance and increases the resistant of concrete.…”
