“…In addition, rhenium-188 mercaptoacetyltriglycine-filled balloon dilation is expected to delay stricture recurrence in patients with urethral strictures. A clinical report of five patients revealed that the mean treatment interval was prolonged from 2.2 months to 10.7 months after rhenium-188 mercaptoacetyltriglycine-filled balloon dilation 57. Further consideration needs to be given to factors such as the local drug concentration achievable in dilation and the reliability of the therapeutic dose.…”

The design of new balloons, such as cutting balloons, and the exploration of new expansion techniques may be research directions in the future.…”

“…Mitomycin C has been largely used due to its anti-collagen property to minimize the recurrence rate of stricture after internal optical urethrotomy. Urethral stricture recurred in only 10% of patients at 6 months follow-up duration [14]. Hardec and team used corticosteroid injections in combination with internal optical urethrotomy and the result was a decrease in recurrence rate [15].…”

“…Like the small series reported by Sun et al [31], the results were not reported according to stricture location, stricture etiology, or other defining characteristics, except for length, making interpretation of the results very problematic. In 2006, Shin et al [33] reported their experience with rhenium-188 mercaptoacetyltriglycine (188Re-MAG3)-filled balloon dilation for recurrent bulbar urethral strictures in four men. The stricture was balloon dilated using a conventional coaxial dilator or a OIU/DVIU was performed if the stricture could not be balloon dilated effectively, followed immediately by placement of the 188Re-MAG3-filled balloon dilator for nearly 10 minutes (dose of 20-30 Gray units [Gy]; tissue depth, 1 mm).…”
