Rhabdoid Tumor of the Kidney: A New Case of Prenatal Diagnosis with Metastases Immediately

Abstract: Rhabdoid tumor of the kidney is a rare pediatric malignancy arising most of the time before the age of two years. The diagnosis is generally difficult. The treatment is not well codified and the forecast remains very dark in spite of the progress of the pediatric oncology. We report a new case of rhabdoid renal tumor diagnosed prenatally and we specify our diagnostic and therapeutic approach.

“…Nevertheless, Trabelsi et al have reported a case of malignant renal rhabdoid tumor with hepatic and skin metastasis in a neonate. 24 The majority of malignant renal rhabdoid tumors were reported to involve single-gene mutations involving SMARCB1 and rarely SMARCA4 gene, 25 both of which were identified in the stored DNA sample of the neonate in our case. There are no reports of fetomaternal transmission of the malignancy so far; the mother is under follow-up for the same.…”
