Abstract: To date, the general and catalytic α-arylation of cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyls remains elusive. We now report the first Rh-catalyzed α-arylation of cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyls with benzocyclobutenols through a cyclic iodonium ylide strategy.
