This paper presents the development and implementation of an innovative Internet of Things (IoT)-based RFID attendance system integrated with a module focused on curbing the spread of contagious diseases in densely populated settings, such as schools and workplaces. Recognizing the limitations of existing radio frequency identification (RFID) attendance systems, an extensive analysis of prior works was conducted to identify crucial functionalities necessary for an effective solution. Leveraging the IoT paradigm, we devised a 3-layer architecture encompassing thermometer sensors, RFID technology, Arduino microcontrollers, Wi-Fi connectivity, and the message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) protocol to facilitate seamless data transmission and storage. The resulting prototype enables real-time monitoring of feverish symptoms, serving as an early warning system for potential contagious illnesses while streamlining attendance management. Data collected from the IoT devices is securely stored in a centralized database and accessed through an intuitive information system embedded within the IoT application. Users can effortlessly view and manage attendance data, while administrators gain access to health-related metrics, enabling timely responses to health concerns. User evaluations of the developed system resulted in an outstanding “A” rating, validating its reliability, functionality, and user satisfaction. Future improvements involve real-world testing, scalability assurance, integration with health authorities for comprehensive data management, and automated alerts for potential disease outbreaks.

Attendance monitoring is a vital activity in several organizations. Due to its importance, many attendance monitoring systems have been developed to automate this process. Despite several advancements in automated attendance management solutions, attendance fraud remains an issue as some end users can manipulate known vulnerabilities, such as proxy attendance, buddy-punching, early departure, and so on. In this paper, a fraud-resistant attendance management solution is developed by harnessing technologies such as geofencing, dynamic QR code and IMEI Checking. The proposed solution is comprised of a single-page web application where QR code can be enabled for attendance registration, and a mobile application, where endusers can scan generated QR code to register their attendance. Attendance cheating via QR code sharing is prevented by encoding the polygonal coordinates of the event venue in the QR code to determine if the user is within the venue. The proposed system solves the problem of proxy attendance by registering and verifying the end user's device IMEI number. Results obtained from testing indicate that attempts at committing a variety of attendance frauds are effectively mitigated.

The advent of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has ushered in a new paradigm in the domain of automated attendance systems, offering a sophisticated yet user-friendly approach to personnel management. This paper presents a comprehensive study on the design and deployment of an RFID-based attendance system powered by the versatile Arduino platform, elucidating its operational tenets, system architecture, and practical implementations. At the heart of the system lies the MFRC522 RFID reader, which synergizes with an Arduino microcontroller to facilitate the identification and logging of attendance data. The system is enhanced by the inclusion of an SD Card Module for data storage and a Real-Time Clock (RTC) Module to ensure accurate timestamping of attendance events. The seamless integration of these components results in a robust mechanism that not only simplifies the attendance tracking process but also fortifies the security framework by leveraging unique identifiers for each user. The study spans the detailed process of assembling the hardware, crafting the software in the Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE), and meticulously testing the integrated system to affirm its efficacy. The resulting attendance system embodies a significant stride towards refining attendance management practices, eliminating the shortcomings of manual tracking while providing a scalable and reliable solution adaptable to various organizational settings.
