“…MFB stimuli have elicited prolonged unit responses similar to the RET-elicited effects described above, in nucleus reticularis, cerebral cortex (Keene, 1973b), midbrain reticular formation (Keene, 1973b), and ventral anterior-ventral lateral thalamus (Keene, 1975). These MFB effects, plus the finding of greater MFB-RET convergence than would be expected by chance and the close correlation between the magnitude of MFB and RET effects across cells, suggest that the stimuli might be activating similar or overlapping mechanisms, responsible for the decreased firing observed in nucleus reticularis.…”
