Revisiting the Galactic X-Ray Binary MAXI J1631–479: Implications for High Inclination and a Massive Black Hole

Abstract: X-ray spectroscopy of Galactic black hole binaries serves as a powerful tool to gain an overall understanding of the system. Not only can the properties of the accretion disk be studied in detail, the fundamental properties of the black hole such as spin and mass can also be measured. In this work we carry out a comprehensive spectral analysis of the X-ray binary MAXI J1631–479 using data from NICER and NuSTAR observatories. We trace the evolution of the accretion disk properties, such as density, ionization, … Show more

“…However, the fractional flux (relative to the total flux) of the reflected component in these sources is not high, consistent with the estimated fraction of photons returning to the disk under the assumption of a Shakura & Sunyaev (1973) disk (thin disk). Recently, a high fraction of returning radiation was found in the soft state spectrum of MAXI J1631-479 (Rout et al 2023), with the flux of ∼1 Crab in the 2−10 keV range (Rout et al 2021). However, a detailed investigation of this phenomenon has not been conducted yet.…”
