Revisiting dynamic capability for organizations' innovation types

Abstract: PurposeDespite the existing literature on the impact of IT capability and innovation capabilities, this study examines how IT-enabled dynamic capability dimensions impact on firm innovative capability to achieve organizational performance.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on the dynamic capability theory, this study empirically investigates the entire chain of relationships among dynamic capability, innovative capability, organizational performance and turbulent environment.FindingsUsing the data from 254 Chi… Show more

“…IT's impact on firm performance through mediators long have been studies in many prior studies (e.g., Ilmudeen et al, 2020;Ismail, 2007;Wu et al, 2015). For instance, Bradley et al (2012) study reveals that the enterprise architecture maturity influences the enterprise agility when IT alignment (degree to which IT strategies support business strategies) incorporated as a mediating variable.…”

“…We used key informant approach for the data collection which is a common method in IS research (e.g., Ilmudeen et al, 2020;Ilmudeen and Yukun, 2018;Wu et al, 2015). The data collection started from October 2016 to January 2017.…”

“…The square roots of AVE have a higher value than all other cross-correlations, suggesting that the discriminant validity is adequate (see Appendix 2, Table 2). Overall, these tests indicate that this study has adequate discriminant and convergent validity (Ilmudeen et al 2019, 2020).…”

“…Although different scholars provide different definitions and explanations of dynamic capabilities, these different viewpoints all adhere to the same idea, namely that dynamic capabilities are behaviors or capabilities related to the allocation of resources and the learning and absorbing of new knowledge. The dimensions of dynamic capabilities mainly include the following: (I) sensing capability (22)(23)(24)(25)(26), namely, the capability to discover, explain, and pursue opportunities in an environment (this includes scanning, searching for and understanding customer needs, technical possibilities, markets, and supplier and competitor responses); (II) learning capability (23)(24)(25)(26)(27)(28), which is defined as the capability to use new knowledge to improve existing ordinary capabilities; (III) integration capability (1,(23)(24)(25)(26)28,29), which refers to the capability to reconfigure resources to adapt to changes in an environment; and (IV) coordination capability (23,26,27), which is defined as the capability to coordinate deployment tasks and resources. This research employs the dynamic capabilities concept of Teece (1) and the dimension of Pavlou and Sawy (23) as a parent concept.…”
