Abstract

Bruno Groppo Historical "revisionism" and paradigm change in Italy and Germany In the last twenty years, and most especially since the collapse of Communism in 1989, liberal and conservative historians have been radically revising the history of the 20th century, and particularly of Nazism, Fascism and Communism - the latter being held chiefly responsible for the violence and evils of the century. This article analyses several historians of this genre such as Ernst Nolte, François Furet and Renzo De Felice, and also the political usage which has been made of history that has gone beyond formerly accepted paradigms.
