Revision of the Neotropical Neuratelia Rondani (Diptera, Mycetophilidae, Sciophilinae): two new species, a new combination, and a new synonym

Abstract: We describe two new Neotropical species of Neuratelia Rondani from the high Central Andes of Colombia, N.altoandinasp. nov. and N.colombianasp. nov. The holotype of Eudicranaelegans Lane actually is a species of Neuratelia and a new combination is proposed. Our examination of the holotype of Neurateliasapaici Lane from southeastern Brazil shows this species to be a synonym of N.elegans (Lane), which is formally proposed here. Neurateliasapaici is redescribed. The position of these three species within the genu… Show more

“…Eudicrana specimens are rare in collections and not abundant in the field. This also applies to other Sciophilinae genera with southern temperate distribution found in Colombia (Henao-Sepúlveda et al 2019). The species of Eudicrana described in this paper were collected in the Colombian high mountain ecosystems dominated by the Myrtaceae genus Tibuchina sp.…”

“…The generic review of the Keroplatidae present in Colombia shows that the family is widely distributed covering va-rious ecosystems at different altitudinal ranges in the country. The greatest diversity of the family is concentrated in the Andean mountains, and this could be explained due to the increased sampling efforts carried out in these ecosystems during the last 10 years to uncover the diversity and ecology of some groups of paramo dipterans (e.g., Montoya and Wolff 2020, Henao-Sepúlveda et al 2019, 2023. ).…”

“…Neuratelia Rondani, 1856 is a relatively small genus, forming a well delimited clade in the subfamily Sciophilinae. It includes 33 extant species in the world fauna (Rondani, 1856;Kurina et al, 2015;Henao-Sepúlveda et al, 2019). Sixteen species recorded from the Palaearctic region, of them nine species have been reported exclusively from the East Palaearctic: three species from Asian part of Russia (Zaitzev, 1994(Zaitzev, , 1999 and six species from Japan (Sasakawa, 2004).…”
