In 1994, I was unable to define the species more precisely. So, at that time all material was provisionally placed under the taxon Trilophus interpunctatus (Putzeys), and the need for revision of the group noted (Balkenohl 1994).

“…Although revised, it was emphasized the genus might be much more widely distributed over the Oriental region including mountainous habitats. This assumption was based on the following knowledge: 1. the genus evolved over tropical Africa with much more species (15), 2. especially the terrestrial fauna of the Oriental Region is still relatively unexplored, and 3. the sistergroup of Trilophidius, Trilophus Andrewes, 1927 is known to be distributed over Asia with twenty-eight species (Balkenohl 1999). The present contribution re ports firstly evidence for the distinctly wider distribution.…”
Trilophidius gemmatus sp. n., a new species from Bhutan, with an updated identification key to the Asian species (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Scaritinae)
AbstractTrilophidius gemmatus sp. n. from Bhutan is described and illustrated. Notes on how to separate this species from other Asian Trilophidius species are given. An updated identi fication key to the Asian Trilophidius species is provided.

“…So, the question of the taxonomical position of Clypeuspinus gen. nov. among the Clivinini is challenging. In contrast to the Scaritinae, phylogenetic assessments are available only for some Clivinini groups [e.g., Schizogenius Putzeys, 1846 (Whitehead, 1972), Trilophus Andrewes, 1927(Balkenohl, 1999] but no comprehensive phylogenetic assessment for the subtribe is available at present. Therefore, relationships are described historically and until today on the basis of similarities observed when genera and species are compared, morphologically.…”
