Revision of the genus Lolliguncula Steenstrup, 1881 (Cephalopoda: Loliginidae) off the Pacific Coast of South America

Abstract: In the present paper the species from the genus LolligunculaSteentrup, 1881 (Cephalopoda: Loliginidae) in Southeastern Pacific Ocean are reviewed. The presence of Lolliguncula (Lolliguncula) panamensisBerry, 1911, Lolliguncula (Loliolopsis) diomedeae Hoyle, 1911 and Lolliguncula (Lolliguncula) argusBrakoniecki and Roper, 1985 are confirmed from Mexican waters to Perú and the species Lolliguncula (Lolliguncula) arguscollected during a cruise of the R/V Anton Bruunfrom 1966 off the coast of South America is … Show more

“…Las paralarvas fueron recolectadas con red Hensen de 1,50 m de largo, 0,65 m de diámetro y malla con abertura de 330 micras; con arrastres verticales desde 50 m de profundidad hasta la superficie estando el barco parado; la fijación de las muestras se efectuó en formaldehido al 2%. but also in cephalopods, of which 38 species have been recorded (Alamo & Valdivieso, 1997;Paredes et al, 1999;Ramírez et al, 2003;Cardoso & Hochberg, 2013) belonging to 22 families. Dosidicus gigas is the second most important resource after Engraulis ringens (Produce, 2018).…”

“…Sex and reproductive status were determined, when was possible, and weight and height were measured. The specimens were classified taxonomically at the species level, using FAO taxonomic codes (Fischer et al 1995), internet databases (WoRMS: World Register of Marine Species), and literature review (Baltazar 1997;Cardoso and Hochberg 2013;Lazarus-Agudelo and Cantera-Kintz 2007;Lemaitre and Alvarez León 1992;Neira and Cantera 2005;Pineda and Madrid 1993).…”

“…A coastal species, depths range from 0-70 m; the biology and ecology of this species are unknown (Roper et al, 1995). In this study new records of L. argus are reported from Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico, and some aspects of their reproduction are described Lolliguncula argus has been recor- ded from off the west coast of Baja California Sur and Gulf of California (Granados-Amores et al, 2013), La Plata Island, Ecuador (Brakoniecki, 1986) and Peru (Cardoso & Hochberg, 2013). The present records is based on 13 females and 11 males collected as by-catch in fished artisanal in March 2014 front Puerto Angel Bahia, Oaxaca (15°39.91'N, 96°29.45'W), and 15 females captured incidentally in shrimp fisheries in 2006 off Chipehua Bay (16°10'N, 95°21'W), in the Gulf of Tehuantepec (Fig.…”

“…Corresponding editor: Claudia Bremec fusing, resulting in a number of taxonomic problems that need to be critically resolved (Cardoso & Hochberg, 2013) and complicate proper elaboration of the fisheries records. In this direction, Sales et al (2014) established the phylogenetic positions of each species within the genus, except for L. argus, for which no sequences exist, for not having tissues available.…”
