Recent science education reforms center at having students learn the practices of scientists. In this study, we aim at exploring how science curricular documents reflect the latest updates from the “practice turn” reform. To do that, we utilize the notion of the scientist’s ways of doing science as a perspective to observe the distribution of components constituting scientific practices in national science curricula. Current literature provides several curriculum analysis frameworks based on taxonomies of cognitive demands or international tests. Still, those frameworks are either not intended for science curricula or limited in indicators and hence failed to capture an updating picture of science curricula that reflect the recent practice turn. We employ multiple case study research design and qualitative content analysis approach to compare learning outcomes in Taiwan and Vietnam’s two national science curricula. Results from this study offer maps of scientific practices across curricular documents and relevant suggestions for stakeholders to improve science curricula. The study opens a new direction on researching science curricula to make science learning approaching the scientist’s ways in reality.

Classification of Action Verbs of Bloom’s Taxonomy Cognitive Domain: An Empirical Study

It was observed from previous researches that Bloom’s Taxonomy action verbs (BTAVs) are overlapping in multiple cognitive levels, causing ambiguity about the real sense of the word. A data set of BTAVs was ranked using a statistical classification. Four categories of BTAVs were identified, out of which 153 BTAVs (86.44%) are classified into a single cognitive level. In the remaining 24 BTAVs, 21 follow a specific transition from one cognitive level to another. The proposed research reduced the cognitive level’s ambiguity and made the classification more robust, making it easier for teachers to create and set the cognitive levels.

Indonesia dan dunia tengah disulitkan dengan adanya pandemi Covid-19, hal ini menyebabkan semua sektor kelangsungan hidup terdampak. Tak terkecuali sistem pendidikan yang mengharuskan untuk dilaksanakan dengan sistem pembelajaran jarak jauh. Dengan perubahan tatanan pembelajaran ini, kurikulum tetap harus terpenuhi dengan pencapaian hasil belajar siswa yang baik pula. Muatan IPA merupakan salah satu muatan yang penting untuk dipelajari secara optimal meskipun di tengah kondisi pandemi, sehingga dalam mengajarkan proses untuk mendapatkan produk akan tercapai apabila guru mampu menciptakan pembelajaran yang tepat dan optimal, diantaranya adalah dengan penggunaan model pembelajaran. Tujuan dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur keberhasilan penerapan model Project Based Learning terhadap hasil belajar IPA, dalam hal ini sebagai objek muatan IPA kelas IV SD. Metode penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan one group pretest-posttest design. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes dan non tes, serta dianalisis menggunakan uji prasyarat, uji hipotesis. Dan dari hasil analisis diperoleh bahwa penerapan model Project Based Learning mampu memperbaiki proses dan hasil belajar IPA siswa kelas IV SD N 2 Tahunan di masa pandemi.
