Reviews on sulphur corrosion phenomenon of the oil–paper insulating system in mineral oil transformer

Abstract: The active sulphur compounds in transformer oil would react with copper wires and produce cuprous sulphides, which then attach themselves to the surface of copper wires and insulating paper, thus reducing the electrical performance of oil-paper insulation and causing insulation failure. This article aims to make a comprehensive summary on the field of sulphur corrosion of oil-paper insulation in the mineral oil transformer, including the corrosion mechanism of sulphide on copper sheets, the deterioration mecha… Show more

“…Any fault in the transformer causes a sudden interruption of the power supply, increases the reparation cost, and reduces the power system's reliability. Consequently, avoiding failures and maintaining the safe operation of transformers is crucial to ensure the overall system's reliability [1][2][3][4]. The health of a power transformer's insulation is critical to its long-term integrity and reliability.…”

“…The oil-paper insulation is widely used in electrical equipment due to its satisfactory cost and excellent insulation performance. The deterioration (ageing) of transformer oil-immersed insulation is directly related to the safety and reliability of the operation of equipment [1,2]. It is thus of great significance to accurately evaluate the ageing degree of transformer oilimmersed insulation.…”
