Review on utility of preferred drugs from Dashanga lepa as herbal hand sanitizer intended for pandemic COVID 19

Abstract

Today the global attention warranted by the condition which has been posed by covid 19 virus which spreads coughing or sneezeing of an infected person through droplets of saliva or nasal discharge.Person to person contact is to be the main method of transmission for this virus according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Unfortunately, there is no specific vaccine or efficient antiviral treatment for coronavirus at present. Thus prevention is only the solution at present time. As hands are the prime modes of spread of microbes and infections, so hand hygiene is mainly an essential measure to keep away the infections. Several studies suggested that 99.9% of the bacteria on hands were killed by the sanitizers. Now to strengthen the prevention and to control activities, it is the time turning to alternative medicine stream like Ayurveda. A polyherbal preparation called Dashanga lepa is used to treat many skin disorders. In this review we summarize the antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal effects reported for herbs present in dashanga lepa. Considering this, an attempt has been made to screen classical literature for the herbs of Dashanga lepa which can be used in ready-made herbal hand sanitizer.
