Review on the systems biology research of Yin‐deficiency‐heat syndrome in traditional Chinese medicine

Abstract: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a systematic medical method that has existed for more than 3,000 years. Unlike Western medicine, the disease diagnosis in TCM is carried out by inspection, auscultation, olfaction, interrogation, and palpation. The patient is then treated according to the disease and corresponding TCM syndrome. However, the development of Chinese medicine is stagnated, partially because it can be influenced by subjective factors, such as the experience and knowledge of TCM practitioners, a… Show more

“…The group of TCM thematic papers provides results of integrative approaches that reveal new insights about the biology of selected TCM syndromes, their markers, and potential treatments. Three papers cover the topic of Yin ‐deficiency‐heat syndrome, the first of which reviews the biology of this TCM syndrome (Jiang & Li, 2020). The second and third papers focus on potential biomarkers for the same TCM syndrome (Chen et al, 2020; Yi et al, 2020).…”

“…Systems biology methodologies, such as genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, have showed significant advantages in studying the specific symptoms in TCM and the herbal formula’s comprehensive mechanism of action ( Cai et al, 2018 ; Jiang and Li, 2020 ). And therefore, proteomics and metabolomics have been applied to explore SMI’s molecular mechanism.…”

“…Transcriptomics is a technique used to study gene transcription and regulation related to TCM syndromes and is conducive to in-depth biological research toward a better understanding of the pathogenesis of TCM syndromes, and so warrants more prevalent application in TCM syndrome research ( Jiang and Li, 2020 ). Gan et al (2020) studied Yin deficiency–heat syndrome using transcriptomics technology and obtained its potential biomarkers.…”
