Review on recent advances in the analysis of isolated organelles

Abstract: The analysis of isolated organelles is one of the pillars of modern bioanalytical chemistry. This review describes recent developments on the isolation and characterization of isolated organelles both from living organisms and cell cultures. Salient reports on methods to release organelles focused on reproducibility and yield, membrane isolation, and integrated devices for organelle release. New developments on organelle fractionation after their isolation were on the topics of centrifugation, immunocapture, f… Show more

“…This is also the reason for us to use sodium-containing medium for the isolation and preparation of mitochondria in our current and our recent study [8]. Actually, the protocol or procedure employed in our current and our recent study [8] using sodium appears better in maintaining the genetic structure and function of isolated mitochondria [29, 30, 31]. …”

“…Another consideration used to define the scope of this review was previous reviews related to subcellular analysis that were published on sub-themes such as the technologies used to analyze isolated organelles 90 or prepare subcellular fractions for proteomic analysis. 91 For the interested reader, Table 2 compiles topical, specialized reviews that were published recently.…”

“…Early [77][78][79][80] and modern [81][82][83] original research papers and reviews [84][85][86][87] describe a large amount of work devoted to the separation of cells, vesicles, organelles and bacteria.…”
