Review on recent advances in securing the long-term durability of calcium aluminate cement (CAC)-based systems

Abstract: With growing demand for the development of multifunctional, high-performance, and high durable construction materials, numerous studies on calcium aluminate cement (CAC)-based cementitious materials having various desirable characteristics, such as heat and chemical resistance, have been widely conducted. CAC has monocalcium aluminate as the main clinker, provides fast hardening and short setting time, and is mainly used for self-leveling mortar and repair materials. Nevertheless, the phase transition of the m… Show more

“…Thus, the temperature inside these mixtures could be higher compared to G0 and GNC1-3 samples. Elevated temperature and low w/c ratio can promote the formation of C 3 AH 6 [ 17 , 45 , 46 ]. The presence of NS can improve the dissolution of CA (the main component of CAC).…”

“…Results similar to those discussed in this paper were also obtained by Son et al [ 17 ] for the samples containing nano-SiO 2 and cured at 20°C for 7 days. However, it should be noted that the introduction of nano-SiO 2 into CAC paste is often considered as a way to reduce the conversion of hexagonal hydrates to regular ones by creating a calcium alumino-silicate phase C 2 ASH 8 [ 6 , 17 , 45 ]. The results indicate that this inhibition of conversion can take place only after exceeding a certain limit of nano-SiO 2 content in the system, while a small amount of this admixture favours the formation of C 3 AH 6 hydrates in early hydration stages.…”

“…C 2 ASH 8 'in, C 3 AH 6 'dan daha düşük bir yoğunluğa sahip olduğu ve iç gözenekleri doldurduğu belirtilmiştir. Bu da nanosilikanın KAÇ bazlı çimentolu malzemelere dahil edilmesinin yüksek dayanıma katkıda bulunacağı şeklinde yorumlanmıştır [52].…”

“…At present, in addition to ordinary Portland cement, cementitious materials mainly include: aluminate cement, phosphate cement and sulphoaluminate cement. After hydration, the alkalinity in the pores of aluminate cement is 11.4~12.5 [ 18 ]. Although the alkalinity of phosphate cement pores after hydration is 7~9 [ 19 ], its strength will decrease when in contact with water for a long time, and the hydration of magnesium phosphate cement will produce ammonia and harm the environment, which does not meet the ecological requirements.…”
