Review on Optimal Siting of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

Abstract: Concerns about the need for clean energy and the need to reduce green-house gases have led researchers and engineers to explore adoption of electric vehicle technology. Electric vehicles hold a promising future due to their efficiency, low maintenance cost and zero carbon emission. Unfortunately, due to metric range drawbacks associated with electric vehicles, large scale adoption of electric vehicles still remains relatively low. To solve this issue of range anxiety, optimal placement and sizing methods of el… Show more

“…The installation of proper charging station infrastructures in public areas is required to overcome the range anxiety factor and encourage the use of EVs for long-range drives. 6,7 Zhang et al 8 proposed the Markov chain and queuing model to determine state space and the load characteristics of fast charging stations, respectively. Also, an optimal sizing and siting of fast charging stations has to be established to reduce the overall charging station development cost, grid loss, and EVs energy loss.…”

“…The charging infrastructure 5 and battery technologies are two of the aspects that affect the widespread of EVs in the transportation sector. The installation of proper charging station infrastructures in public areas is required to overcome the range anxiety factor and encourage the use of EVs for long‐range drives 6,7 . Zhang et al 8 proposed the Markov chain and queuing model to determine state space and the load characteristics of fast charging stations, respectively.…”

“…On the other side, optimal allocation of EV charging infrastructure has been motivated and attracted by various researchers in recent times. According to the survey presented in [43], optimal allocation of EV charging infrastructure problem has been solved in three categories, (1) transportation-network, (2) distribution-network and (3) transportation-distribution-networks. Considering the possibility of degradation in the performance of RDNs due to EV fleet load, integration of EV charging stations at optimal location is essential.…”
