Review on nontraditional perspectives of synthetic aperture radar image despeckling

Abstract: Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image despeckling is a preprocessing method. SAR images are, by default, noisy in nature. The kind of noise found in SAR images is called speckle noise. The effect of this noise on SAR images is highly adverse. It degrades the quality of the SAR image, resulting in the loss of vital information. Since SAR images are inherently speckled in nature, it costs a lot of information loss. The removal of such noise from the SAR image is mandatory and is the first step. The elimination of… Show more

“…So, this Siamese network provides the weight map after which a decomposition method called Gaussian Pyramid is applied along with Pyramid transform to conduct decomposition helping in making the image fusion process by the discernment of human visuals. After decomposition, a similarity waste fusion method is used to regulate it [10]. To provide a superior fusion approach, the algorithm integrates the standard pyramid based and the similarity-based fusion algorithm along with the CNN model [11].…”

“…After that, the second step is where the sub-images of varying resolutions having their specific features are merged by using some image fusion tools. Lastly, after getting the fused sub-images, they are reconstructed to get the final fused image with the help of the image reconstruction algorithm [8][9][10]. The quality of the image is hence improved and can play a larger role in the predictions required.…”

“…As a result, bright spots are produced in the imaging space, which is known as speckle [2]. The speckle problem exists in many fields, such as laser displays [1], superresolution fluorescence localization microscopy [3], holographic displays [4] and synthetic aperture radar [5]. “…S YNTHETIC Aperture Radar (SAR) is a very effective imaging technology that finds use in several domains, including both military and civilian sectors, owing to its ability to operate in all weather conditions and provide images with exceptional quality [1], [2]. The process of evaluating SAR pictures can present difficulties, mostly attributed to the presence of speckle noise [3]. This challenge necessitates a certain level of skill to effectively address and mitigate its impact.…”
