Review on non-dipole effects in ionization and harmonic generation of atoms and molecules*

Abstract: In this review, we will focus on recent progress on the investigations of nondipole effects in few-electron atoms and molecules interacting with light fields. We first briefly survey several popular theoretical methods and relevant concepts in strong field and attosecond physics beyond the dipole approximation. Physical phenomena stemming from the breakdown of the dipole approximation are then discussed in various topics, including the radiation pressure and photon-momentum transfer, the atomic stabilization, … Show more

“…However, the electric-quadrupole term is dominant in the s wave of the relative electron motion which forms the cusp, whereas the magnetic-dipole term contributes mostly to the p wave (see Ref. [32] for further details). PSECS calculated total integrated cross sections are listed in Table I.…”

“…Note in passing that nondipole effects have also been observed with near-infrared fields [51][52][53][54]; see Refs. [55][56][57] for recent reviews on nondipole effects in intense laser pulses. At near-infrared wavelengths the adiabaticity condition in Eq.…”

“…Nondipole effects have been identified in a wide range of phenomena, mostly, in strongly driven atoms [8]. For instance, theoretical studies investigated such effects in multielectron ionization of Ne [9], as well as stabilization [10] and high-order harmonic generation [11][12][13].…”
