Review of the Steps for Development of Quantitative Research Tools

Abstract: The number of tools developed by researchers has increased in recent years. Still the demand and need for development of new and standardized tool is increasing to a great extent, the simple reason is either standardized tools are not available or available tools lacks reliability and validity in that setting. This article explores the steps and process which provides base by which a reliable and valid tool can be developed. Method followed was indepth review of published research articles. This article review… Show more

“…The K-NPSE and general self-efficacy had a significant positive correlation with a correlation coefficient of 0.43, thereby meeting the standard of 0.40-0.80 for establishing criterion-related validity [15,24]. In each dimension, there were significant positive correlations for the professional situation (r = 0.42, p < 0.001), advocating situation (r = 0.26, p < 0.001), and caring situation (r = 0.41, p < 0.001) ( Table 3).…”

“…This study tested the validity and reliability of the K-NPSE in an attempt to develop a nursing profession self-efficacy scale suitable to Korean culture. It is important to present reasonable evidence with various logical analyses for using the scale [15,24]. Thus, we recruited nurses from multiple regions in Korea in consideration of the features of the clinical setting and adhered to systematic procedures.…”

“…In recent years, researchers have been more inclined towards tool development because of demand as they gave a scientific and valid estimation. So, the need here is to develop tools by following a more systematic way (Kumar, 2015). From generating the initial item pool to the construction of validity and reliability criterion sampling was used.…”

“…The sample size must, however, relate to the question and the type of qualitative research. Kumar (2015) accordingly claimed that it is an approach in which a few carefully selected cases are intensively studied. Bearing this in mind, the sample size selected is given in Table 6.1.…”

“…According to Kumar (2015), the first step in tool development is a careful examination of the extant theory, which is current or existing theory relating to the construct the researcher decides to measure. In social research, there are three main forms of data collection, namely questionnaires, interviews and observation or study documents.…”
