Review of Research on Nonlinear Rotordynamics in Japan

Abstract: This article introduces research on nonlinear rotordynamics in Japan. In most cases, the nonlinearity treated there was weak and it was approximated by a power series of low order. Firstly, the research on various nonlinear resonances due to the weak nonlinearity is introduced. Next, those on more complicated nonlinear phenomena, such as entrainment, internal resonances, chaotic vibrations, nonstationary vibrations, and more complicated systems, such as cracked rotors and continuous rotors, are explained. Then… Show more

“…Analysis of chaotic dynamics of rotating machines has been an important topic in rotor-dynamics area in recent years. Ishida [1] reviewed the research on the nonlinear vibration and chaos in rotordynamics field. That paper covered the nonlinearity in restoring and damping forces such as clearances in bearings, squeeze film dampers, oil films in journal bearings, magnetic forces, seals, frictions and stiffening effect in rotating shaft systems.…”
