We reviewed literature from 2014 to 2018 on foreign/second language learning supported by technologies. We aimed to select empirical studies that show effect of technologies on language learning. In this review study, we describe types of technologies, their potential usage for language learning, advantage and disadvantages, and we also give some examples to understand our findings better. Besides, we compare our results with those obtained from earlier review studies, e.g. we identified several new technologies used in studies between 2014 and 2018 but never used before. We also make several suggestions for future studies in this field. Our results can be useful for teaching and research communities that plan to design technology-enhanced foreign/second language learning and teaching.

Intercultural interaction and communication are rapidly increasing throughout the world. In a fast-growing and globalised world, the ability to communicate with people across cultures is important. This study discusses describing the Byram model of the environment used in learning, culture, language, and problems and solutions for the future and using qualitative methods by following the pattern of previous research with the primary sources from Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar, Science Direct and Mendeley's search platform. The result from this research is (1) This ICC model can be used as a useful reference and guideline for teacher planning in discussions and discussions to develop IC students. (2) Inter-cultural learning is more effective and more impressive such as Holograms, VR technology, Artificial Intelligence, cloud, etc. (3) The most widely used topics in the studio are culture (n = 4), daily life (n = 2), controversial issues, language, communication, physical space (time resolution), resolution, resolution, and stereotyping. (4) Problems, solutions, and suggestions for future studies and practices. Most of the problems that most of us find here are socialisation. The solution to this problem is to familiarise students with this communication tool.

The prosody of the speech signal conveys information over the linguistic content of the message: prosody structures the utterance, and also brings information on speaker's attitude and speaker's emotion. Duration of sounds, energy and fundamental frequency are the prosodic features. However their automatic computation and usage are not obvious. Sound duration features are usually extracted from speech recognition results or from a force speech-text alignment. Although the resulting segmentation is usually acceptable on clean native speech data, performance degrades on noisy or not non-native speech. Many algorithms have been developed for computing the fundamental frequency, they lead to rather good performance on clean speech, but again, performance degrades in noisy conditions. However, in some applications, as for example in computer assisted language learning, the relevance of the prosodic features is critical; indeed, the quality of the diagnostic on the learner's pronunciation will heavily depend on the precision and reliability of the estimated prosodic parameters. The paper considers the computation of prosodic features, shows the limitations of automatic approaches, and discusses the problem of computing confidence measures on such features. Then the paper discusses the role of prosodic features and how they can be handled for automatic processing in some tasks such as the detection of discourse particles, the characterization of emotions, the classification of sentence modalities, as well as in computer assisted language learning and in expressive speech synthesis.
