Review of pulse compression gratings for chirped pulse amplification system

Abstract: The ultrashort, ultrahigh intensity pulse laser has been fully developed in past three decades. Chirped pulse amplification (CPA) system plays an important role in the generation of the ultrashort, ultrahigh intensity pulse laser. Pulse compression gratings (PCGs) are the key element of CPA system and determine the performance and lifetime of the whole system. We introduce the principle of CPA system and the performance requirements of PCGs. Then the development status of PCGs, including Au-coated grating, mul… Show more

“…2 With the development of high-power fiber laser technology, the interaction between intense laser and window materials has become a research hotspot. [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] There are many factors that affect the damage effect of laser on MgF 2 , such as laser intensity, spot size, laser wavelength, and so on. 11 The effect of different types of lasers on magnesium fluoride is quite different.…”

“…Spectral Beam Combination (SBC) is a promising technique that combines multiple low-power laser beams into a single high-power laser beam [1][2] [3] . In the fields of inertial confinement fusion and high-energy pulse laser systems, Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA) is an important method for enhancing the intensity of short-pulse outputs and achieving ultra-short, ultrafast, and high-energy lasers [4] [5] . In both SBC and CPA, diffraction gratings are key components.…”

“…In recent years, numerous research efforts have been made to understand the damage mechanisms and the ablation process in the interaction between lasers and gratings [1][2][3]. Gratings are an important pulse compression element in high-peak power laser systems [4,5], and their laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) both limits the laser energy and affects the operating cost of optics renewal or replacement. Gratings, whose general structure comprises a metal film deposited on a glass substrate, with regular grooves on the surface of the metal film, also play a key role in spectroscopy devices.…”
