Review of Passive Cooling Methods for Buildings

Abstract: An energy crisis has become a challenging issue all over the world. More than 40% of energy consumption (or more than that) is due to buildings. People were and are always looking to improve indoor conditions. Cold countries are worried about keeping the space warm whereas hot countries are worried about keeping the space cooler. There has been an exceptional increment in the utilization of air conditioning system, air coolers and fans for cooling the buildings all around the globe. The cooling load requiremen… Show more

“…The use of sun shading on the west side often does not guarantee the optimal minimization of heat entering the building. [15] 06.00 am 11.00 am The North and South walls were measured in correlation to the orbit of the sun. In the city of Semarang, which is located along the coordinates 6°58′S 110°25′E, the sun positioned itself on the South in December and North in June.…”

“…When the indoor environment is too warm, and the comfort is compromised, the air movement around the occupants may be increased. This can be done using natural ventilation techniques often categorised as single-sided, cross and stack ventilation and windcatchers/wind towers [23][24][25][26] (Figure 8). Keywords: "natural ventilation", "ventilative cooling", "windcatcher", "wind tower"…”
