Review of neurological diseases of ruminant livestock in Australia. VI: postnatal bovine, and ovine and caprine, neurogenetic disorders

Abstract

This paper, the last in a series of reviews of neurological diseases of ruminants in Australia, discusses a range of neurogenetic disorders of cattle, sheep and goats, including necrotising encephalomyelopathy, glycogen storage disorders, cerebellar abiotrophy and β-mannosidosis. They are categorised by the species and breeds in which they occur.

Progressive Charolais ataxia in calves

“…St Boswells made a clinical diagnosis of progressive Charolais ataxia (Palmer and others 1972, Cordy 1986, Windsor and others 2011) in three four-month-old calves from a group of 14 purebred Charolais cows with calves at foot. The affected animals, one bull calf and twin heifers, had clinical signs that gradually deteriorated over a period of three weeks.…”
