REVIEW OF MITES (ACARI) ASSOCIATED WITH THE EUROPEAN SPRUCE BARK BEETLE, IPS TYPOGRAPHUS (COLEOPTERA: CURCULIONIDAE: SCOLYTINAE) IN ASIAN RUSSIA

Abstract: The following taxa are recorded for the first time: for the Palaearctic-Superioropus huronmontanus (genus and species); for Russia-Pleuronectocelaeno japonica, Trichouropoda karawaiewi, Dendrolaelaps pini, Gamasellodes tatricus, Scutacarus palustris, Tarsonemus typographi, Heterotarsonemus lindquisti, Hemisarcoptes, Saproglyphus waldorfae, Naiadacarus, Schwiebea nesbitti, Histiostoma pini, and H. ovalis. “…quadrisetus prey on nematodes and may have an important role in controlling bark beetle populations [32,33]. In Khaustov et al [36] feeding on the eggs of I. typographus was observed. Specimens found in this research were collected under elytra of I. sexdentatus, on the ventral abdomen of I. acuminatus and ventral thorax, and head of I. typographus in P. nigra and P. abies.…”

“…On the other hand, the reduced diversity can be explained by the excessively large number of mites belonging to D. quadrisetus and T. polytricha. Regardless of the number of phoretic species mentioned in the literature, phoretic mites represent only a small part of the 68 species observed inside the galleries of I. typographus [66].…”
