Review of Methods for the Surveillance and Access Control Using the Thermal Imaging System

Abstract: This paper presents methods for human detection for application in the field of national security in the context of state border surveillance. Except in the context of state border security, the presented methods can be applied to monitor other protected object and infrastructure such as ports and airports, power plants, water supply systems, oil pipelines, etc. Presented methods are based on use of thermal imaging systems for the human detection, recognition and identification. In addition to methods for the … Show more

“…One of the markets driving commercial thermal imagining is the automotive market, where thermal imagining is used for pedestrian and car detection for increased security and collision avoidance [ 12 , 13 , 14 ]. However, there are other applications such as object inspection in construction [ 15 , 16 , 17 ], medicine [ 18 , 19 ], veterinary science [ 20 ], access control [ 21 ], agriculture [ 22 ], astronomy [ 23 , 24 ], gas leakage detection [ 25 , 26 ], inspection of solar panels [ 27 ], autonomous drone navigation [ 28 ], helping visually impaired subjects [ 29 ], and so on. While a more in-depth presentation of thermal imaging applications can be found in [ 2 , 30 ]; the application range is evident and diverse.…”

“…In industrial environments, improved thermal images support the early detection of equipment failures [9], identification of energy inefficiencies [10], and monitoring of manufacturing processes. Clear and detailed thermal images are crucial for intruder detection, hazard identification, and protecting personnel and assets in surveillance and security [11,12].…”
